General Counsel, Director of Intellectual Property and Chief Compliance Officer
Mr. Schar rejoined Dextera Surgical in May 2016. Most recently, Mr. Schar served as of counsel for Morrison & Foerster, and handled a portfolio of software and user interface patents for a major consumer electronics company. Prior to that, Mr. Schar was in-house counsel at Intematix, a phosphor manufacturer in the LED lighting industry, and was responsible for the company’s patent portfolio of almost 500 issued and pending global patents and applications. Mr. Schar was responsible for all commercial contracts involving the company, including distribution, supply, and partner agreements, primarily involving customers and partners in Asia and Europe, and worked closely with employees across the company to ensure environmental, FCPA and other compliance matters. Previously, Mr. Schar was director of intellectual property at Cardica from 2001 to 2012, where he handled all aspects of patent and trademark prosecution and portfolio management for the company. He also developed Cardica’s original compliance program, including insider trading and trading window compliance. Mr. Schar started his career as an associate at the law firm of Lyon & Lyon.
Mr. Schar holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Arizona and a juris doctor from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
